Vodafone says no negotiations going on with Warid

Posted on: October 16, 2008

British mobile phone giant Vodafone has said it was not negotiating with Warid to buy a majority stake in its Bangladesh operations.

Spokesman of the company Simon Gordon rejected the reported negotiations with Warid’s parent company Abu Dhabi group, saying the story was “pure speculation on which we do not comment.”

Warid officials have also rejected the Wednesday (15 Oct ‘08) report in the Financial Express on the negotiations between its parent company and two global mobile phone giants, Vodafone and Etisalat.

The Financial Express has expressed its regret that the news was published despite assurance by Warid’s Bangladesh chief Muneer Farooqui that he was not aware of any such development.

The newspaper has investigated the contents of the report and found that the reporter did not verify the information properly and was not aware of the updated development.
