Ukrainian mobile subs fall 345,000 in September

Posted on: October 18, 2008

The number of Ukrainian mobile phone subscribers fell 345,000 on the month in September to 55.4 million, consultants Advanced Communications & Media said Thursday.

Penetration, or the percentage of all Ukrainians using a mobile phone, fell to 119.8% at the end of September from 120.6% at the end of August.

AC&M’s penetration rate represents the number of valid SIM cards per 100 people and reflects that many people have more than one phone, especially in the bigger cities.

The country’s two biggest operators, Kyivstar, controlled by Norway’s Telenor ASA, and OAO Mobile TeleSystems, both lost subscribers to Turkcell-controlled Astelit.
