Scrapping of deal on BTTB privatisation demanded

Posted on: January 12, 2009

Leaders of Bangladesh T&T Sramik Karmachari Federal Union Saturday (10 Jan ‘09) demanded scrapping of the caretaker government’s decision of converting Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board (BTTB) into a private limited company, reports UNB.

They urge the government to run it as a profitable public-sector organisation.

They voiced the demand in a conference of the employees’ union held at the TTC hall, attended by representatives from different units.

Abdul Matin Master, president of Jatiya Sramik League, the labour front of the ruling Awami League, spoke as chief guest at the conference presided over by union chief Mohammad Nurul Azad.

The speakers claimed that the decision of the caretaker government to make BTTB a private limited company was a conspiracy to destroy the institution.

They expressed hope that the present government would review and scrap the decision of the caretaker government.

They also demanded cancellation of transfer orders of officials and removal of the alleged supporters of BNP-Jamaat.
