GrameenPhone shuffles top posts

Posted on: January 20, 2009

Grameenphone has made some major changes in its top management positions in an effort to meet the company’s new challenges.

The new management team includes Oddvar Hesjedal, chief executive officer (CEO), Arif Al Islam, chief financial officer (CFO) and deputy CEO, Titus Dan, chief marketing officer (CMO), Frode Stoldal, chief technology officer (CTO), Rubaba Dowla, chief communications officer (CCO), Raihan Shamsi, chief corporate affairs officer, and Arnfinn Groven, chief human resources officer (CHRO).

“The reasons for this change are to have a smaller and more efficient team, to move some of the managers to new positions to meet our new challenges and to have improved coordination in the organisation,” said CEO Oddvar Hesjedal in statement yesterday (19 Jan ‘09).

Arif Al Islam gets a new role in addition to his CFO position. As deputy CEO, Islam will be the number two executive in the country’s largest telephone operator.

Titus Dan, a Romanian national and a seasoned marketing professional in telecommunications and consumer goods, will join as the chief marketing officer. He comes from the position as chief communications officer in Pannon, Hungary. Laszlo Barta continues as sales director and will in addition be deputy CMO.

The new communications division headed by Rubaba Dowla will include market communications, public relations and corporate social responsibility.

Shafiqul Islam becomes head of the cross-functional broadband project. Emad Ul Ameen will be adviser to CEO and CHRO on organisational issues. Syed Yamin Bakht will also be reporting to the CHRO, pending a new assignment.

New CTO Frode Stoldal will have Tanveer Mohammad as the deputy CTO and new head of Networks and Lutfor Rahman as new head of IT.

Raihan Shamsi is taking over the corporate affairs role and will continue to remain the company secretary where he will work for the board of GP.

Farhad Ahmad will continue as head of internal audit and will now functionally report to the board audit committee, the press statement said.
